About Derrick

Derrick McCombs is a Washington, D.C. native, survivor, and storyteller whose life reflects resilience and faith. Raised in challenging conditions in Southeast D.C., he overcame adversity through education, discipline, and spiritual grounding. He attended Benjamin Banneker Senior High School, studied at Howard University, and participated in the AFS exchange program in Brazil, which broadened his worldview. Now based in Maryland and working as a dispatcher, Derrick is a devoted father and grandfather. His first book reflects his mission to inspire others through a story of perseverance, healing, and faith in God’s grace.
